The American Lung Association announced on Aug. 6 that its 42nd annual Autumn Escape Bike Trek will take place from September 25 to 27, 2026, across Cape Cod. The multi-day cycling event is open to participants of all skill levels, offering one-, two-, or three-day ride options with distances ranging from 25 to 155 miles. The event aims to raise more than $240,000 in support of the association’s mission to improve lung health and prevent lung disease.
More than 300 riders and volunteers are expected each year at the Autumn Escape Bike Trek, which has raised over $2.2 million during the past twelve years for research, advocacy, and education initiatives. These funds support efforts such as ending lung cancer, improving air quality, preventing youth vaping, and supporting individuals living with chronic lung diseases like asthma and COPD.
Nicole Durante, Development Director for the American Lung Association in Rhode Island & Connecticut, said, “The Trek is a powerful reminder that progress happens one effort--one mile--at a time. What makes the event stand out isn’t just the ride, but the volunteers, cyclists, and supporters who show up and make it possible. The fully supported event begins in Sandwich, Massachusetts, with rest stops throughout Cape Cod including South Dennis, Hyannis, Falmouth, and Barnstable. Participants can choose between road or gravel routes of varying lengths. Additional features include festival-style activities such as Pedal Palooza, a finish-line celebration with a winner’s circle event, and a lobster closing dinner.
A virtual participation option allows trekkers to record miles remotely by raising their minimum fundraising amount by September 25; these participants receive commemorative items such as a t-shirt and medal. The trek is open to cyclists aged seven years old or older; children under eighteen require adult supervision.
