FARE (Food Allergy Research & Education) announced on Aug. 6 that it is launching a series of regional events across the country, reimagining its annual Food Allergy Summit to bring resources and education closer to food allergy families in more communities.
Kelly Cleary, MD, MPH, Medical Director and Vice President of Health and Education for FARE, said, "We're excited for the opportunity to bring FARE events closer to members of our community. We’ve designed each event to create a meaningful experience, tailored for different age groups with opportunities to learn and connect. We can’t wait to welcome familiar faces, meet new members of our community, and share these experiences together.”
The series began July 18 with a free Back-to-School event at the Kansas City Public Library’s Plaza Branch. The event included a top-9 allergen-free school lunch demonstration, an Ask-the-Expert panel, and other health resources. It was made possible through the 15 and FARE initiative—a partnership between FARE and 15 and the Mahomies Foundation—to expand access to food allergy education in Kansas City.
Upcoming regional events are scheduled for Stanford, California, on Aug. 22 at the Stanford Faculty Club from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., targeting caregivers as well as adults living with food allergies and tweens or teens aged 11 or older. Speakers will include Sharon Chinthrajah, MD; Tina Sindher, MD; Melissa Engel, PhD; Christopher Warren, PhD; all affiliated with major research institutions; along with Dr. Cleary herself.
On Sept. 8 at Fenway Park in Boston from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., FARE will host an event for young adults ages 21 or older featuring a panel discussion moderated by Dr. Cleary with Michael Pistiner, MD MMSc., and Wayne Shreffler, MD PhD of Massachusetts General Hospital before attendees watch a Red Sox vs. Angels game together while enjoying allergen-free refreshments in an inclusive environment.
