The American Lung Association Research Institute announced on Aug. 5 the start of its 2027-2028 Research Awards and Grants cycle, continuing its commitment to supporting research aimed at ending lung disease and improving quality of life for those affected.
For the upcoming funding cycle, the institute will support basic, translational, and clinical research projects. Applications will be evaluated through a rigorous scientific peer review process. Awardees are expected to investigate a wide range of issues related to reducing the burden of lung disease, with researchers from various disciplines encouraged to apply.

Since 1904, the organization has played a role in major advancements such as curbing tuberculosis, improving care for premature infants with respiratory distress syndrome, advancing lung cancer treatments, and addressing emerging threats like COVID-19. The association’s efforts have included nationwide outreach through local offices and community initiatives focused on education and advocacy, according to the official website. Researchers interested in applying must be conducting their work within the United States and meet individual grant qualifications. Application materials are available via ProposalCentral. The selection process takes six to eight months, with notifications sent out in June 2027.
