Eli Lilly is expanding its partnership with service provider Resilience, with the two companies committing $750 million to increase U.S. drug manufacturing capacity, according to a July 31 announcement.
The investment will be used to bolster Resilience’s operations in the Cincinnati region. Through this funding, Resilience plans to significantly increase U.S. production of Lilly’s KwikPen injectable device for diabetes and obesity medicines. The contract development and manufacturing organization is preparing the site for expansion, with full operations expected to begin early next year.
In February, Eli Lilly received approval from the Food and Drug Administration for Zepbound in a multidose KwikPen device. This product contains four doses of the GLP-1/GIP receptor agonist, providing a month of treatment for obesity or overweight in one device.
Resilience expects that expanding KwikPen capacity will create at least 400 jobs in the Cincinnati area. With these new roles, Resilience's total job creation in Ohio—where it operates two sites around Cincinnati—will reach 1,400 positions. The company also has facilities in Philadelphia and Toronto.
Resilience was launched in 2020 with more than $800 million from investors including Arch Venture Partners and 8VC. Since then, it has formed partnerships with companies such as AstraZeneca, Sanofi, and Takeda while raising almost $2.5 billion through financing rounds and government loans. The company expanded its West Chester facility in Ohio in 2023; invested $225 million into a Cincinnati plant in 2024; grew at two Ohio locations in 2025; and moved its headquarters from San Diego to Blue Ash, Ohio, earlier this year.
Resilience began working with Eli Lilly in 2023 through a biomanufacturing alliance initially disclosed without naming Lilly as the partner but predicted by Resilience to support record revenues at that time.
