The Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology announced on July 30 the activation of The QUANTUM Trial (Alliance A062401), a clinical study evaluating an immune-targeting approach for patients newly diagnosed with primary plasma cell leukemia.
Plasma cell leukemia is described as a rare and aggressive blood cancer, with approximately 1,200 new cases identified each year in the United States. The disease is marked by high levels of malignant plasma cells circulating in the bloodstream, and long-term survival rates remain low.
Researchers said current therapies often fail to achieve lasting remissions. The QUANTUM Trial will assess whether teclistamab—a novel bispecific antibody—can improve patient outcomes when used as consolidation therapy after stem cell transplantation compared to standard post-transplant treatments. Teclistamab is described as a next-generation immunotherapy that has received approval from the Food and Drug Administration for certain multiple myeloma patients. It works by activating the body's immune system to target and destroy cancer cells.
Participants in the study will follow a multi-phase treatment plan that combines established therapies with this new bispecific antibody approach. The Phase II trial aims to enroll 74 adults at participating cancer centers and medical clinics across the country.
The QUANTUM Trial is sponsored by the National Cancer Institute and conducted by the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology.
