The Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT) announced its 2026-2027 leadership team on July 12, led by its 21st president, Dr. Ronen Rubinshtein. Rubinshtein, director of the Heart Institute at Edith Wolfson Medical Center in Holon, Israel, brings experience in interventional cardiology, endothelial function, and advanced cardiac imaging, including CT and MRI.
"Having more than one tool in your toolbox, although demanding, is especially rewarding, and this still injects interest and excitement to my career almost each and every day," Rubinshtein said. He previously served as general secretary of the Israel Heart Society and chaired SCCT's Membership Committee and Annual Scientific Meeting Committee.
Rubinshtein reflected on the Society's evolution, stating, "SCCT has begun with the notion that we need to prove that cardiac CT is accurate and has the right to be among the legitimate cardiac imaging modalities. Later on, we proved that cardiac CT is highly useful and clinically meaningful with high prognostic value. In the current era, we need to be able to show that we are not just a 'machine-oriented' society but part of a wider movement that is trying to unveil the pathophysiology of cardiac pathologies and provide pathways to modify disease progression and a clear scientific value for prevention and intervention."
He said his priorities as president include uniting the global cardiovascular CT community and collaborating with stakeholders to advance cardiovascular care. "In the rapidly changing atmosphere of health care, our society needs to adjust to new challenges and collaborate with all stakeholders to advance cardiovascular care through appropriate use of cardiac CT," Rubinshtein said. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining the human element in the Society, even as artificial intelligence becomes more prevalent in the field.
Rubinshtein highlighted the value of listening as a leadership tactic, saying, "I’ve learned to appreciate those who are able to listen and to elegantly navigate all the opinions and try to consolidate an answer for a problem. If we are all working towards the same direction and toward a mutual cause, we'll be able to find the common ground and to find the best solution for the problem. As long as I have a good team around me, I think we'll be able to tackle anything."
SCCT also recognized outgoing president Dr. Kavitha Chinnaiyan and the 2025-2026 leadership team for their service. The new Executive Committee includes President-Elect Kelley Branch, Immediate Past President Kavitha Chinnaiyan, Vice President Cristina Fuss, Treasurer Ahmad Slim, Secretary Barbara Srichai-Parsia, and Member at Large Pál Maurovich-Horvat. The Board of Directors features members from multiple countries and specialties. Founded in 2005, SCCT is an international professional society dedicated to improving health outcomes through cardiovascular computed tomography, with members in over 100 countries, according to the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography.
