The Neuroscape research center at the University of California, San Francisco and Samsung announced on July 9 the launch of a remote longitudinal study aimed at understanding changes in brain health across different decades of life. The study, called Neuroscape Technology for Aging Health - Digital Approaches (TAH-DA), will use Samsung wearable technology to identify biometric predictors of cognitive decline over a year.
The TAH-DA study is part of Samsung's Open Innovation Initiative, which seeks to accelerate innovation through collaboration with universities, hospitals, research institutions, and startups. The initiative supports the development of digital health solutions designed to enhance healthcare and deepen understanding of the mind-body connection. According to the announcement, participants from across North America began enrolling in early 2026, and the goal is to recruit 200 adults from each decade between ages 40 and 89.
Participants receive a Galaxy Watch that records various health metrics throughout one year, including heart rate, electrocardiogram readings, blood pressure, blood oxygen levels, body composition measurements (BIA), sleep patterns, skin temperature tracking, and daily activity such as step counts. A Galaxy Tab A9 tablet is also provided for self-assessment and training in cognitive control abilities. Data collected will be used to develop algorithms that can track and predict changes in brain health over time.
Adam Gazzaley, executive director of Neuroscape, said, "We are thrilled to partner with Samsung on this research project, which combines its wearable technology and tablets with our software to study cognition in the real world. This academic-industry partnership is driving the most technologically ambitious remote trial we've ever attempted and will generate a unique perspective on human aging." The clinical trials platform Nexus will enable online deployment for all activities including enrollment and diagnostic assessments. Helpsquad will provide AI chatbot support for participants while didit.me assists with identification verification during enrollment.
