Declan Costello, Consultant Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeon at Wexham Park Hospital in Slough, Berkshire, UK, said on July 3 that the recent BACO meeting in Glasgow concluded successfully. Costello said the academic programme was organised by James O’Hara and the executive committee was led by Helen Cocks. He added that a full report will appear in the next issue and an upcoming eNewsletter.
Costello highlighted that the World Congress of Audiology took place in Seoul this May. He said the next congress will be held in Edinburgh in 2028, hosted by congress president Kevin Munro. In this issue, Munro and colleagues discuss ensuring accurate communication about hearing loss and dementia.
A supplement for July/August 2026 focuses on laryngology and snoring. Costello said Natalie Watson curated a selection of articles for this supplement. The ENT features section includes an article by Jacqui Allen about platelet-rich plasma (PRP) use in vocal fold surgery; Allen is a keynote speaker at the IFOS congress scheduled for September in Türkiye.
Costello also commented on ongoing global conflicts affecting media coverage priorities, referring to Ian Tickton’s article as “a timely reminder of the horrors unfolding” in Ukraine and how clinicians are coping with those challenges.
