Northwestern Medicine opens Center for Advanced Endoscopy at Central DuPage Hospital

Northwestern Medicine announced on April 30 the opening of its new Center for Advanced Endoscopy at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Illinois. The $15 million center will provide advanced gastrointestinal procedures to patients in the Chicago region and beyond.

The new facility is part of Northwestern Medicine’s effort to make complex, academically driven care more accessible throughout its network of 11 hospitals. According to Ken Hedley, president of Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital, "Combining the convenience of community‑based care with the expertise of a major academic medical center, this opening is a significant leap forward in our commitment to deliver complex care directly to the communities we serve. Local patients now have access to the most advanced endoscopic procedures right here in the western suburbs, without the added burden of traveling far from home."

Led by Dr. Amrita Sethi as medical director, the center offers minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic options for complex gastrointestinal conditions such as pancreaticobiliary disease and early-stage cancers. Sethi said, "Our vision is to make Central DuPage Hospital a destination for advanced GI care, not just for this region, but nationally and globally. We are bringing innovative therapies, minimally invasive diagnostics, clinical research, medical training and comprehensive patient support together under one roof." The facility spans 20,000 square feet and includes next-generation technologies like flexible robotics and AI-enabled diagnostics.

The Center for Advanced Endoscopy expands upon Northwestern Medicine’s previous investments in digestive health services at Central DuPage Hospital—including a liver transplant program launched last year—and seeks to improve local access while supporting research and professional training initiatives. Dr. Sri Komanduri said: "By combining top-tier talent, advanced technology, and a focus on innovation, Northwestern Medicine is setting the new standard for what GI care can look like in a community setting." The design aims to streamline both patient experiences—through dedicated nurse navigators—and referring physician collaboration.

Northwestern Medicine operates under its parent organization Northwestern Memorial HealthCare according to its official website. Howard B. Chrisman serves as president and chief executive officer according to its official website.
