Fight For Air Climb returns to PENN 1 in New York City on March 21

The American Lung Association in New York will hold its 15th annual Fight For Air Climb at PENN 1 on March 21, 2026. The event is expected to draw more than 600 participants, including firefighters and first responders, who will climb the building's 1,099 stairs. The purpose of the event is to raise awareness and funds for lung health and clean air initiatives.

Erica Masin, Executive Director at the Lung Association, said, "For 15 years, the New York City community has climbed hundreds of stairs to raise awareness and critical funding to support the 2,380,000 people in New York who live with lung diseases like asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and lung cancer. We’re inviting everyone to join us on the stairs to support our family, friends and neighbors who fight for every breath. Each step takes us closer to a world free of lung cancer and lung disease."

The climb is open to all fitness levels. Participants can choose their own pace as they ascend the 55 stories of PENN 1. This year’s event marks a milestone with cumulative fundraising surpassing $2.5 million since the event began. According to organizers, ninety cents of every dollar raised supports research, programs, and advocacy.

Stair climbing offers several health benefits such as improving cardiovascular fitness, strengthening muscles, and enhancing balance and coordination.

Registration for individuals and teams—including families, running clubs, social groups, and companies—is currently open at FightForAirClimb.org/newyorkcity.

Sponsors for this year’s climb include Vornado Realty Trust, Ropes & Gray, Boost Oxygen and Prehab.
