Mayo Clinic has announced the opening of a representative office in the Cayman Islands, marking its first location in the Caymans and third in the Caribbean. The new office on Grand Cayman Island aims to assist patients, their families, health insurers, and others interested in connecting with Mayo Clinic.
The staff at the new office will help people from the Cayman Islands and nearby areas arrange appointments at various Mayo Clinic locations, including Rochester, Minnesota; Phoenix and Scottsdale, Arizona; Jacksonville, Florida; as well as Mayo Clinic Healthcare in London. Currently, Mayo Clinic operates patient information offices in about 15 countries, which include locations such as the Dominican Republic and Trinidad and Tobago.
"The staff at the Mayo Clinic Representative Office in the Cayman Islands will play a key role facilitating travel to Mayo Clinic by patients and their families," said Rafael Sierra, M.D., an orthopedic surgeon and chair of the division of hip and knee surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, who also serves as medical director for the Americas. "The addition of a third office in the Caribbean underscores Mayo's commitment to serving patients throughout the region who have serious, complex and unsolved medical needs."
Services provided by the Cayman Islands office include assistance with travel arrangements, lodging options, billing inquiries, insurance matters, general orientation to Mayo Clinic procedures, review of medical records by Mayo specialists, and coordination of future appointments. These services are offered free of charge. The office does not provide direct medical care.
Patients can request appointments directly or be referred by physicians. Interpreters are available without cost to help those whose primary language is not English communicate effectively with healthcare providers.
Mayo care teams focus on creating a coordinated experience for patients by arranging schedules so that specialists’ offices and testing facilities are located near each other. Care is managed by one personal physician who oversees communication both within Mayo Clinic and with patients' local healthcare teams.
