Formulatrix and Spear Bio have announced the continuation of their partnership to automate and improve the SPEAR UltraDetect assay platform using Formulatrix's F.A.S.T. (Flow Axial Seal Tip) Liquid Handler.
The collaboration aims to merge Spear Bio’s immunoassay technology with Formulatrix’s automation tools, enhancing the efficiency and consistency of protein biomarker analysis for life science and diagnostic research. The integrated system is designed to streamline processes from sample preparation through qPCR setup, enabling high throughput and reproducibility.
According to the companies, the SPEAR UltraDetect assay platform sets a new standard for ultrasensitive immunoassays by detecting protein biomarkers at attomolar concentrations using small sample volumes. The platform utilizes Successive Proximity Extension Amplification Reaction (SPEAR) technology, which requires two antibodies to remain co-localized in order to generate an amplifiable signal. This approach, combined with a homogeneous and wash-free format, is intended to provide high specificity and eliminate surface-related interference even at very low analyte levels.
The platform is compatible with standard qPCR systems as well as automated liquid handlers. Researchers can use this scalable solution for both discovery-based and translational studies. Setup time for the semi-automated workflow using the F.A.S.T. system is under 20 minutes, while maintaining precise results.
“In validation studies, Spear Bio demonstrated that automating the SPEAR UltraDetect workflow with the F.A.S.T. system reduced hands-on time by over 80 % and improved precision to < 5 % average CV with 1 µL sample.” Both companies emphasized their shared commitment to innovation and reproducibility in molecular research.
