As 2026 begins, Declan Costello, Consultant Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeon at Wexham Park Hospital in the UK, extends New Year wishes to readers. He reflects on changes in medical meetings over recent decades, noting a shift from traditional lectures to formats that encourage open discussion and practical learning.
Costello describes his experience at the Advances and Controversies in Laryngology meeting in Chicago. The event gathered 40 participants for group discussions rather than standard lectures. "The ability to bounce ideas around the room (we were sitting in a circle) was a real eye-opener, and led to very honest and open discussions. It is a means of running a meeting that I would definitely advocate for other gatherings," he said.
Looking ahead, ENT & Audiology News plans to attend several international conferences throughout 2026. These include CEORL-HNS in Gothenburg in April, BACO in Glasgow in July, IFOS in Istanbul in September, and BAA in Liverpool in October. Attendees of EROC 2026 can find copies of the magazine at Widex’s booth number 32. There will also be coverage of the EROC meeting available through upcoming eNewsletters and print issues. Those attending the 20th National ENT Masterclass in London this January can collect print editions there as well.
The Jan/Feb issue features articles from global contributors. Costello highlights Prof Carl Philpott’s MACRO Trial recently published in The Lancet, which examined treatment options for chronic rhinosinusitis within the UK: "I have been chatting to Carl, so check out the video interview here." Additionally, an article by Marlene Bagatto follows her keynote address at last November's BAA conference.
In staff news, Yovina Khiroya-Morjaria joins as audiology editor: "We’re very happy to have you on the team!"
ENT & Audiology News has outlined plans for supplements during 2026 covering topics such as Auditory Diagnostics and AI Applications, Laryngology and Snoring, along with another edition of its How I Do It supplement series.
