Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS) has finalized its acquisition of Nelson Ambulance and its affiliates, which include Access Ambulance Service, Connecticut Handivan, and The Limo Group. The announcement was made at an event held at Nelson’s North Haven facility.
Christopher O’Connor, CEO of YNHHS, stated, “YNHHS is always looking for opportunities to grow and strengthen services to better meet the needs of the patients and communities we serve. This will significantly expand our Health System’s medical transport capabilities, creating a more seamless, integrated experience for our patients across the care continuum.”
The two organizations have been working together in recent months to ensure a smooth transition for employees, patients, and clinical partners. With this acquisition, Nelson’s current patients will have access to additional resources under YNHHS. Emergency transport services from Nelson’s North Haven and Milford locations will continue as before. YNHHS also plans to maintain collaboration with Nelson’s existing partners to avoid any disruption in patient care.
Saleem Khan, president of Nelson Ambulance Service and Affiliate Transportation companies, commented on the integration: “This is an exciting opportunity for our two organizations to unite to better serve the needs of communities across Connecticut. We have a long history of strong collaboration, and by joining together we can expand access to care across the state and ensure that Connecticut’s patients are treated with high quality care, starting at transport.”
Yale New Haven Health is known as Connecticut’s largest healthcare system. It includes five hospitals—Bridgeport Hospital, Greenwich Hospital, Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, Westerly Hospital, and Yale New Haven Hospital—as well as several specialty networks and Northeast Medical Group. The system is affiliated with Yale University and Yale Medicine.
