Baylor College of Medicine clinics receive multiple recognitions from American Heart Association

Baylor Medicine, which operates as the academic medical practice of Baylor College of Medicine, has been recognized by the American Heart Association for its work in cardiovascular health. The organization received several awards: Target: Type 2 Diabetes℠ Gold recognition; Check. Change. Control. Cholesterol Gold recognition; and both Gold+ and Silver+ recognitions from the Target: BP program.

The Target: Type 2 Diabetes℠ Gold award is given to practices that have achieved control of HbA1c levels in patients with diabetes and maintained more than 70% adherence to cardiovascular measures. Specialties at Baylor Medicine receiving this award include Cardiology, Comprehensive Health Clinic, Endocrinology, Geriatrics, McNair General Internal Medicine, San Felipe General Internal Medicine, Nephrology, Transition Medicine, Family Medicine – Kirby, Family Medicine – River Oaks, and Family Medicine – Fannin Tower (Texas Medical Center).

The Check. Change. Control. Cholesterol Gold recognition is awarded to practices that demonstrate over 70% appropriate statin therapy use and show a commitment to lowering cholesterol through changes in clinical practice. Specialties at Baylor that received this distinction are Atherosclerosis, Cardiology, Comprehensive Health Clinic, Endocrinology, Fannin Cardiology, Geriatrics, Infectious Disease, McNair General Internal Medicine, San Felipe General Internal Medicine, Vascular Surgery as well as three Family Medicine locations.

For blood pressure management under the Target: BP program:

- The Gold+ designation recognizes practices with more than 70% blood pressure control rates along with measures taken to improve accuracy.

- Silver+ recognizes implementation of measures for improving blood pressure accuracy and control.

Gold+ recipients at Baylor include Atherosclerosis; Comprehensive Health Clinic; Fannin Cardiology; San Felipe General Internal Medicine; Transition Medicine; Family Medicine – Kirby; and Family Medicine – River Oaks.
