On November 6, the American Lung Association will host the LUNG FORCE Turquoise Tasting at Carmel Country Club in Charlotte. The event, presented by Novant Health, marks ten years of efforts to improve lung cancer research and care. Attendees will include lung cancer survivors, advocates for lung health, and healthcare professionals. The evening will feature food, drinks, entertainment, and fundraising activities to support the association's work.
McCay Manwaring, chair of the event, said, “We are so grateful for the Charlotte community’s support of our shared mission over the past 10 years. Lung cancer is a devasting disease that impacts thousands of families across North Carolina. But there’s hope. The survival rate has increased by more than 44 percent in the last decade thanks to increased awareness and breakthroughs in detection and treatment. The LUNG FORCE Turquoise Tasting raises critical funds to carry that momentum forward and save more lives.”
Lung cancer remains the top cause of cancer deaths both in North Carolina and nationwide. Early screening can help detect lung cancer when it is more treatable, but not enough people who are at high risk are getting screened. More information about low-dose CT lung cancer screening tests can be found at SavedByTheScan.org.
LUNG FORCE brings together people affected by lung cancer—survivors, caregivers, and their families—and highlights their stories as part of its advocacy work.
The event on November 6 is open to those interested in attending or becoming sponsors; details are available at CharlotteTurquoiseTasting.org.
