Cleveland Clinic will serve as the presenting sponsor for the American Lung Association’s LUNG FORCE Walk, marking its fifth consecutive year in this role. The event is scheduled to take place at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo on Sunday, September 28, with over a thousand participants expected.
Dr. Andre Smith, pulmonary physician and program director of Cleveland Clinic’s Community Lung Health Program, said, “We’re proud to partner again on this event with the American Lung Association. We’re excited to help bring the community together to raise awareness about lung disease and offer free health screenings and health information.”
Participants can choose between a 5K course throughout the zoo or a shorter 1-mile route. The event will include breathing tests, other health screenings, and informational resources. Attendees will also have access to complimentary coffee, snacks, smoothies, and food from Beyond Juicery.
Shannon Danes, Team Captain of Team Connie walking team, stated: “My mom was an incredible woman whose love, strength, and kindness shaped everyone around her. She had a heart that gave endlessly, a spirit that inspired, and a smile that could brighten any day. Team Connie is proud to be a part of this year’s LUNG FORCE Walk to honor her memory and walk alongside those who need support. And a huge shout out to every doctor, nurse, and staff member at the Cleveland Clinic who cared for my mom- your care touches countless lives and we are deeply grateful for all that you do.”
According to the American Lung Association, someone in the United States is diagnosed with lung disease every two and a half minutes. In Ohio alone, more than 1.8 million people live with lung disease. Funds raised from the walk will go toward research efforts as well as education and advocacy initiatives aimed at preventing lung disease.
Registration for the walk is free of charge. Check-in begins at 8 a.m., with the walk starting at 9 a.m. Participants arriving by 9:30 a.m. will receive free admission to the zoo along with parking privileges for the duration of the event.
