Physician assistant on sinus issues and sleep disruption: ‘Any kind of sinus issue will always affect your sleep’

Mark Kline, a Physician Assistant at Frederick Breathe Free Sinus & Allergy Centers, highlighted the impact of sinus issues on sleep quality in an Instagram post. He noted that conditions like post-nasal drip can lead to poor sleep, often causing individuals to endure discomfort over time.

"If your sinuses are bothering you and you're having post‑nasal drip, you're going to have a terrible night's sleep, which is why so many people just kind of end up living with it," said Kline, according to Instagram. "So any kind of sinus issue will always affect your sleep."

Chronic sinusitis is among the most prevalent health complaints in the United States, affecting approximately 28.9 million adults. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), symptoms include nasal obstruction, facial pain, and disrupted sleep. The CDC reports that about 11.6% of American adults are affected annually, emphasizing its significant impact on daily life.

The CDC also states that 17.8% of U.S. adults have difficulty staying asleep most nights, while 14.5% struggle with falling asleep. Physical health conditions such as nasal congestion or post-nasal drip frequently contribute to these sleep disturbances. This data is derived from the National Health Interview Survey conducted in 2020.

Insufficient sleep remains a persistent health concern across the United States. According to the CDC, many adults consistently receive less than the recommended seven hours of sleep due to issues like sinus and respiratory conditions. These trends are observed across various demographics, indicating it is a nationwide challenge.
