The American Lung Association in North Carolina is organizing an educational event for the medical community on September 9 in Durham. The event, called North Carolina Community Connections, will be held at Mez Contemporary Mexican and is open to medical professionals such as primary care providers, oncologists, pulmonologists, thoracic surgeons, fellows, students, and nurse navigators. Other healthcare workers are also welcome.
The session will feature a panel of physicians and surgeons from Duke University, University of North Carolina, and WakeMed. They will discuss lung cancer patient identification, screening practices, biomarker testing, and treatment options. The event aims to share best practices and address challenges faced by practitioners. Attendees will also have opportunities for networking during the evening.
North Carolina Community Connections is part of a speaker series focused on preventing lung disease and improving lung health. Participation in the event is free but space is limited.
AstraZeneca and WakeMed are sponsoring the event.
According to the American Lung Association, lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States. In North Carolina alone, nearly 9,000 people are expected to be diagnosed with lung cancer this year. Despite these numbers, recent advancements in detection and treatment have led to a 44% increase in survival rates over the past decade.
For more information or to RSVP for the event on September 9 from 6–8 p.m., interested parties can visit the American Lung Association's website.
