American Lung Association hosts inaugural pickleball tournament in Henderson

The American Lung Association of Nevada is set to host its first "Smash the Stats" Pickleball Tournament on Sunday, June 29, 2025. The event will take place at Chicken N Pickle in Henderson, Nevada. The theme for this year is "Breathe. Play. Give!" which aims to unite the community in a fun setting while raising awareness and supporting efforts to combat lung disease.

Lung disease impacts over 34 million people in the United States. In Nevada, residents face challenges such as poor air quality. According to the Lung Association's 2025 "State of the Air" report, Clark and Washoe Counties received failing grades for ozone and particle pollution. This situation increases health risks for thousands of Nevadans, particularly children, seniors, and those with chronic illnesses.

Proceeds from the tournament will support initiatives by the Lung Association to fight lung cancer, improve air quality, reduce lung disease burdens, and eliminate tobacco use and related diseases.

"By participating in this tournament, you’re not just playing a game—you’re helping us change the statistics," said Mindy Kermes, Tournament Committee Chair for the American Lung Association in Nevada. "Together, we will raise awareness, fund lifesaving research, and advocate for cleaner air and healthier communities."

The tournament welcomes adults aged 18 and older. Friends and families are encouraged to attend and support their favorite teams. Whether participants are experienced players or new to pickleball, they have an opportunity to contribute positively while enjoying competitive play and community engagement.
