PathAI collaborates with Northwestern Medicine on digital pathology advancements

PathAI and Northwestern Medicine have announced a strategic collaboration to advance pathology diagnostics using artificial intelligence. This partnership involves the implementation of PathAI's AISight digital pathology image management system at Northwestern Medicine, aiming to enhance efficiency and quality in pathology operations. The collaboration also includes joint research initiatives, clinical innovation programs, and the co-development of new AI-powered diagnostic tools.

Key aspects of this partnership include deploying PathAI’s AISight platform for use by Northwestern Medicine’s 95 pathologists across its 11 hospitals. This will enable remote case reviews and facilitate seamless collaboration among pathologists. Additionally, PathAI scientists will work with Northwestern Medicine researchers on studies exploring AI applications in digital pathology, such as enhancing cancer detection and discovering novel disease patterns.

The collaboration will pilot AI tools in clinical settings at Northwestern Medicine to integrate AI insights into pathology practice. The partners aim to improve diagnostic accuracy and patient care through these initiatives. They will also co-develop new diagnostic algorithms using real-world clinical data to address unmet medical needs.

The deployment of AISight allows pathologists at Northwestern Medicine to manage cases digitally with advanced AI capabilities. The cloud-native platform supports high-resolution image analysis using machine learning algorithms, streamlining workflow efficiency and enabling remote consultations while maintaining diagnostic quality.

Beyond technology implementation, the partnership combines Northwestern Medicine’s clinical expertise with PathAI’s computational capabilities to drive innovation in pathology. Joint research initiatives will develop new AI models for pathology that can be rapidly translated into clinical practice at Northwestern Medicine.

Andy Beck, CEO and Co-Founder of PathAI, stated: “At PathAI, our mission is to advance medicine by improving the accuracy and efficiency of pathology through AI... We are thrilled to collaborate with an institution at the forefront of clinical excellence.”

Daniel J. Brat, Chair of Pathology at Northwestern Medicine, commented: “Integrating this technology into our workflow represents a significant leap forward for our pathology program... This collaboration positions Northwestern Medicine at the cutting edge of innovation in pathology.”

The combined efforts are expected to accelerate AI adoption in clinical pathology and serve as a model for integrating AI into healthcare.

AISight is currently designated for Research Use Only in the US; however, AISight Dx has received CE-IVD marking in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland.
