Baylor College honors top educators at annual Faculty Awards Day

Baylor College of Medicine held its Faculty Awards Day at the Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute at Texas Children’s Hospital. During the event, top educational leaders were recognized for their contributions to the institution.

Dr. Biykem Bozkurt, senior dean of faculty at Baylor, stated, “Our faculty are improving health outcomes, training the next generation of healthcare and biomedical research leaders, and serving our community and communities at large, nationally and globally.”

The Barbara and Corbin J. Robertson, Jr. Presidential Award for Excellence in Education was given to Dr. Nadia Ismail and Dr. Matthew Rasband for their significant roles in medical and biomedical sciences education.

The John P. McGovern Outstanding Teaching Awards went to Dr. Bryan Tucker for foundational sciences teaching and Dr. Arindam Sarkar for clinical sciences teaching.

Recipients of the Clark Faculty Service Award included Dr. Malvika Juneja, Dr. Shweta Parmekar, Dr. Jessica Davila, Dr. Esther Sampayo, and Claire Horner, J.D., for exemplary service with professionalism.

The Norton Rose Fulbright Faculty Excellence Awards were presented in four categories: teaching and evaluation, educational leadership, educational research, and development of enduring educational materials.

Graduating Class Outstanding Faculty Awards were chosen by fourth-year medical students and awarded to Dr. Tara Harris, Dr. Atul Maheshwari, Dr. Navdeep Sekhon, and Dr. Rosa Michelle Schmidt.

Endowed chairs and professorships appointments were also announced for various faculty members including Drs. Shanda Blackmon, Nicola Hanania, Fasiha Kanwal among others.

Leaders in clinical excellence were acknowledged as well during the ceremony.
