Baylor College of Medicine held its annual Faculty Awards Day on Wednesday at the Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute, part of Texas Children’s Hospital. The event honored physicians for their outstanding contributions to patient care.
Among the awards presented was the Ben and Margaret Love Foundation Bobby Alford Award for Academic Clinical Professionalism. This accolade went to Dr. Gordon Schutze, who serves as a professor and executive vice chair in the Department of Pediatrics, vice dean in the School of Medicine, and associate dean of academic and clinical affairs for Baylor’s program at CHRISTUS Children’s in San Antonio.
Other notable awards included those recognizing early career excellence, sustained service over six years, and mastery in patient care over 15 years. These awards were initiated by Dr. Paul Klotman, president, CEO, and executive dean of Baylor College of Medicine. They aim to acknowledge faculty members who demonstrate exceptional clinical skills, professionalism, leadership abilities, and community service.
“This is a day to celebrate our great clinicians and educators,” stated Klotman. “Faculty are the soul of the institution. I want to congratulate everyone who has received an award. What you do for our institution is so important.”
The Master Clinician Award recipients include Dr. Pedro Diaz-Marchan (radiology), Dr. Yadollah Harati (neurology), Dr. Catherine Healy (pediatrics), Dr. Jose Alberto Hernandez (radiology), Dr. Joseph Kass (neurology), Dr. Alicia Kowalchuk (family and community medicine), Dr. George Mandy (pediatrics), Dr. Ida Orengo (dermatology), and Dr. Aliya Sarwar (neurology). Additional winners can be found in the Faculty Awards Day program.
These recognitions are part of nearly 200 awards given to Baylor faculty across various mission areas.
