The American Lung Association, in partnership with the American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST), is marking its 120th anniversary by launching a new research grant. The CHEST/ALA Guideline Implementation Research Grant focuses on Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) management. This initiative underscores the association's dedication to advancing lung health through science-based initiatives.
"For 120 years, the American Lung Association has been at the forefront of the fight for healthy lungs and clean air," said Harold Wimmer, President and CEO of the American Lung Association. "This anniversary grant reflects our ongoing commitment to high-quality science and to ensuring healthcare providers have the best evidence-based tools to guide patient care. We are proud to partner with CHEST to continue this vital work."
John Howington, MD, MBA, FCCP, and 2025 President of CHEST stated, "Resources for scientific discovery are often limited, making partnership opportunities like this all the more important for sustaining momentum in the field. By joining together, our organizations are helping ensure that pulmonary research continues to move forward for the benefit of the patients. We are honored to join the American Lung Association in support of progress in COPD research."
The two-year grant offers $120,000 for implementation research focused on COPD interventions. Areas of interest include evidence-based interventions such as identifying barriers/facilitators, smoking cessation programs, digital health tools, and methods for reducing exposure to triggers affecting those with COPD. The aim is to implement interventions that reach all communities across the United States while considering factors like allergens, pollutants, smoking/vaping habits, environmental smoke from wildfires, and other respiratory irritants.
Applications must be submitted by Monday, June 9, 2025. Details regarding eligibility criteria and submission guidelines can be found on Lung.org or by contacting [email protected].
