Baylor College of Medicine tops out new Lillie and Roy Cullen Tower

Baylor College of Medicine reached a milestone with the topping out of the Lillie and Roy Cullen Tower, a new addition to its campus. Spanning 503,000 square feet, this facility will host the School of Medicine and School of Health Professions.

Dr. Paul Klotman, president, CEO, and executive dean of Baylor College of Medicine, stated, "This is an exciting moment for Baylor as we celebrate the progress of the Lillie and Roy Cullen Tower.” He added that the facility will enhance education and training while serving as a center for innovation and discovery.

The construction's milestone also marked the achievement of a $150 million fundraising goal, made possible by various supporters. The institution now aims to raise $200 million to further its initiatives.

Greg Brenneman, chair of Baylor’s Board of Trustees, acknowledged philanthropic support, saying, “We are incredibly grateful for our many generous donors.” He stressed that Cullen Tower will unite leading minds in medicine and research and contribute to a thriving future for Houston.

Part of the Michael E. DeBakey Health Sciences Park, Cullen Tower is part of a larger 800,000-square-foot project meant to integrate medical education and research. It is adjacent to the Texas Medical Center’s Helix Park, a development at the intersection of healthcare and business.

Robert Pulito, president emeritus and principal at The S/L/A/M/ Collaborative, which designed the building, mentioned, "Cullen Tower is designed with collaboration at its core.” The architecture aims to bridge education, research, and clinical care.

Construction started in 2023 with support from entities like The Cullen Foundation. Baylor anticipates opening in 2026, expecting to transform Baylor for future students.
