Baylor College of Medicine earns Tier 1 status in U.S. News 2025 rankings

Baylor College of Medicine has been named a Tier 1 medical school for research by U.S. News & World Report in its 2025 Best Graduate Schools rankings. This recognition places Baylor among only 16 medical schools nationally with this status and makes it one of only two institutions in Texas to achieve such a distinction.

U.S. News & World Report also ranked Baylor’s Graduate School in Biomedical Sciences at No. 25 for graduate programs in biological sciences. In the field of nursing, the Doctor of Nursing Practice – Nurse Anesthesia program was ranked No. 4, and the Physician Assistant Program was placed at No. 6 nationally in PA programs.

According to U.S. News & World Report, Tier 1 schools are distinguished by their resources, technology, and the research conducted by their students and faculty. The report describes these schools as ideal for individuals aiming to contribute significantly to medical research.

“Baylor stands among the nation’s leading medical schools known for their research excellence,” stated Dr. Paul Klotman, Baylor’s president, CEO, and executive dean. “Be assured that students in Baylor College of Medicine schools and programs will receive top-notch preparation and learn from faculty who are authorities in their specialties.”

Schools were assessed based on faculty resources, academic achievements of entering students, and research productivity. Research-oriented schools were specifically evaluated on their research output.

The Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research reported in February that Baylor faculty secured over $319 million in NIH funding in 2024. Baylor ranks 20th in the nation for NIH funding among medical schools and is the leading institution in Texas, a position it has held since 2001.
