As announced by the UT System, Giuseppe N. Colasurdo, MD, will step down as President of UTHealth Houston on March 1. This decision comes after nearly fourteen years in the position, as he plans to return to his career in pulmonary medicine.
Dr. LaTanya Love will serve as interim president during the search for a successor. Dr. Colasurdo expressed confidence in her leadership abilities, stating, "Dr. Love has been a part of the UTHealth Houston community since her residency in the Department of Pediatrics... I am certain she will excel as our interim president."
Reflecting on his tenure, Dr. Colasurdo stated, "It has been an absolute privilege to serve as your president... Thanks to you, your many talents, and your tireless efforts, this university is one of the nation’s leading institutions of biomedical education." He praised the university's accomplishments in research and medical care.
Looking forward, Dr. Colasurdo expressed trust in the search committee to find an ideal candidate and confidence in UTHealth Houston's community to continue its commitment to excellence. He concluded by urging support for Dr. Love: "Please join me in supporting Dr. Love as our interim president."
