Chancellor J.B. Milliken of the University of Texas System has announced the appointment of Dr. LaTanya Love as interim president of UTHealth Houston, starting March 1, 2025. Dr. Love is currently the dean of education at McGovern Medical School and serves as executive vice president for student and university affairs at UTHealth Houston.
Dr. Love's career at UTHealth Houston began with her residency in internal medicine and pediatrics, completed in 2004, followed by a role as chief resident in 2005. She was subsequently recruited to the faculty in pediatrics and took on leadership roles within admissions, student affairs, and student health services. Her medical degree was earned from UT Medical Branch in Galveston.
"Throughout Dr. Love’s twenty-year professional path at UTHealth Houston, she has consistently demonstrated leadership, and she contributes immensely across many of the university’s core mission areas," stated Chancellor Milliken. "The regents and I are grateful to Dr. Love for serving in this role during the upcoming presidential search process."
Dr. Love will replace Giuseppe Colasurdo, MD, who announced his decision to step down from his position as president after more than 12 years of service last September. During his tenure, President Colasurdo made significant contributions to advancing education, research, and clinical operations at UTHealth Houston.
"President Colasurdo dedicated tremendous energy and expertise to positioning UTHealth Houston among the best academic health centers in the nation," said Milliken. "He has left the institution in a strong position, and we are deeply grateful for his service as president."
