The American Lung Association in California is set to host its annual Fight For Air Climb at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on Sunday, February 23rd, starting at 10 a.m. This year's event emphasizes community healing, appreciation for fire and law enforcement officers, and the ongoing battle for clean air in California.
The Fight For Air Climb is a significant stair-climbing event aimed at raising funds to improve lung health and prevent lung disease. The event will also feature a Community Festival offering resources on lung protection during wildfires, rebuilding advice, and expert guidance from medical professionals on disaster preparedness. Notable participants include experts from UCLA Health, Cedars Sinai, USC Keck, LA County Department of Mental and Public Health, South Coast Air Quality Management District, FEMA representatives, and others. Actor Shantel VanSanten will deliver a welcome message as the Lung Association Nationwide Ambassador.
Participants can choose from climbing routes of 1,700, 3,400 or 6,800 stairs or opt for a flat-surface walking route at the venue. The event caters to all fitness levels.
“Each year, it is truly inspiring to see hundreds of Angelenos step up to help raise awareness and funds for family, friends and neighbors facing lung disease,” said Allison Hickey, Division Executive Vice President of the American Lung Association. “This year’s event at the iconic LA Memorial Coliseum will be in honor of the tens of thousands of Angelenos whose families and homes have been devastated by wildfires."
Participation supports efforts to combat lung cancer and promote clean air while advocating for a tobacco-free future. Stair climbing also offers health benefits like improved balance and reduced mortality risk.
