UT System initiates search for new president at UTHealth Houston

The University of Texas (UT) System Board of Regents has initiated the search for a new president of UTHealth Houston. Chairman Kevin P. Eltife announced the formation of a presidential search advisory committee to assist in selecting a successor to Giuseppe N. Colasurdo, MD, who is stepping down after over 12 years in the role.

Eltife remarked on the institution's longstanding excellence: “UTHealth Houston has continued to build a legacy of excellence over more than five decades,” he said. “It stands as a major hub of health education, research and patient care at the epicenter of the largest medical center in the world." He expressed confidence that UTHealth Houston will attract exceptional candidates for its presidency.

The advisory committee includes representatives from various sectors within the university and community. Members from the Board of Regents include Janiece Longoria, Jodie Lee Jiles, and Stuart W. Stedman. John M. Zerwas, MD, serves as chairman from the UT System side.

Other notable members are Julie Philley, MD, from The University of Texas at Tyler; Jochen Reiser, M., PhD, from The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston; and several deans and professors from UTHealth Houston itself.

In addition to internal stakeholders like faculty and students, external members such as William C. Shrader and Willoughby C. Williams also participate in this comprehensive selection process.

The UT System encompasses 14 institutions with over 256,000 students enrolled and is noted for producing a significant portion of Texas's health care professionals and graduates annually.
