Susan Perkins, an assistant manager at Gold’s Gym on James Island, is preparing to participate in a lip sync event at Charleston Music Hall. On February 27, she will join three other local personalities in a performance that combines lip-syncing and dance routines. The event is part of the American Lung Association in South Carolina's fundraiser, Lip Sync For Lungs Live Battle IX: Rhinestones & Rockstars.
The performers aim to raise $15,000 each for research and health initiatives. Susan Perkins shared her enthusiasm: “Lip Sync For Lungs brings the very best of Charleston together—we’re giving back to the community in style.” She attended last year's event and was inspired by the performances.
Perkins' team, "Susan and the Golden Girls," includes fellow fitness instructors Rachael Bruno, Emily Oswald, and Margaret Bradbury. They plan to showcase female artists as part of their performance. Perkins explained her motivation: “I have a personal connection to lung disease. My maternal grandmother and uncle both had COPD, and asthma runs in my family.”
Perkins appreciates the Lung Association’s educational efforts against smoking and vaping through initiatives like Backpacks for Bright Futures. She also highlighted community support from James Island businesses such as Petaloso, Local Love CHS, The Edge Tattoo Studio, Daniel Island Real Estate, and Gold’s Gym.
She encouraged attendance at Lip Sync For Lungs: “The performers become the artists... It’s all for an incredible cause.” Tickets are priced at $45 with most proceeds supporting lung health initiatives.
