American Lung Association urges radon testing during National Radon Action Month

Radon, a colorless and odorless gas, is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States, responsible for approximately 21,000 deaths annually. The American Lung Association is emphasizing the importance of testing homes for radon during January's National Radon Action Month.

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that can accumulate to dangerous levels inside buildings across all U.S. states. When inhaled, it poses significant health risks by exposing lung cells to harmful radiation.

The Lung Association encourages individuals to learn more about radon testing and mitigation through resources available at Lung.org/radon. They also offer a free educational course titled "Radon Basics" at Lung.org/Radon-Basics.
