The American Lung Association in Florida is organizing the 17th annual Jacksonville Fight For Air Climb on March 22, 2025. The event will take place at the Bank of America Tower, where participants will climb 37 stories to support research and prevention efforts for lung disease.
"For nearly two decades, the North Florida community has climbed to raise awareness and critical funding to support the 3.2 million Floridians who live with lung disease and honor loved ones we have lost," said Jeremy LaTraverse, Jacksonville Fight For Air Climb event chair and Frozen Category manager at Southeastern Grocers. "We invite everyone to join us on the stairs and step up for healthy lungs and clean air. When you can’t breathe, nothing else matters."
LaTraverse also works as a Firefighter/EMT for Kingsland Fire Rescue. He highlights that many firefighters participating in the climb wear gear weighing almost 50 pounds, reflecting their increased risk of lung disease due to exposure to harmful substances during their duties.
The event welcomes participants of all levels, from beginners to experienced climbers. With its 734 stairs offering impressive views from the top, the Bank of America Tower provides an ideal venue for this challenge.
Participation supports the Lung Association's mission to combat lung cancer, improve air quality, alleviate lung disease burdens on individuals and families, and promote a tobacco-free future. Stair climbing offers health benefits such as improved balance and muscle strength while potentially reducing mortality risk.
Registration is open for individuals and teams including friends, families, companies, or organizations. More information can be found at ClimbJax.org.
