Voters support Washington's climate commitment by defeating Initiative 2117

Washington voters have decided to uphold the state's Climate Commitment Act, signaling approval for ongoing efforts to mitigate climate impacts. The defeat of Initiative 2117 ensures that the existing climate law remains in place, continuing its role in reducing carbon emissions and promoting clean air and transportation.

Carrie Nyssen, Senior Director of Advocacy for the American Lung Association in Washington, expressed satisfaction with the outcome. "The American Lung Association applauds the will of the voters who recognize the importance of taking bold steps to protect our air and our public health," she stated. "The Climate Protection Act will continue to ensure Washington’s air is clean and residents will be healthier for generations come."

This decision reflects a strong message from voters supporting measures aimed at environmental sustainability and public health benefits across Washington state.
