November marks Lung Cancer Awareness Month, and the American Lung Association in North Carolina is taking steps to increase awareness about lung cancer. The organization is focusing on promoting lifesaving lung cancer screening and raising funds for essential research aimed at ending this serious disease.
Juleidy Turnipseed, a member of the Lung Association’s North Carolina Leadership Board, stated, “Every two minutes, a person in the U.S. learns they have lung cancer. But there is hope. Thanks to increased awareness and advancements in detection and treatment, the survival rate has increased by 44% in the past decade.” Turnipseed also serves as a thoracic oncology surgical physician assistant and director of Thoracic Oncology Program Services at Novant Health.
Turnipseed emphasized the importance of community involvement during this month, saying, “This November, we’re encouraging our community to take three small actions to help save lives and end lung cancer.”
Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States. It is important to note that anyone can be affected by this disease.
The American Lung Association suggests three actions individuals can take to contribute during Lung Cancer Awareness Month.
