November marks Lung Cancer Awareness Month, a time when the American Lung Association in Florida focuses on increasing awareness, promoting lung cancer screenings, and raising funds for research to combat this serious illness.
"Every two minutes, a person in the U.S. learns they have lung cancer. But there is hope. Thanks to increased awareness and advancements in detection and treatment, the survival rate has increased by 44% in the past decade," stated Catherine Madaffari, M.D., a member of the Lung Association’s North Florida Local Leadership Board and an internist at Mayo Clinic. "As a physician and lung cancer survivor myself, I can’t overstate how critical raising awareness and funding for research is for saving lives. That’s why we’re encouraging our community to take three small actions this November to help end lung cancer."
Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer deaths across the United States, affecting individuals regardless of their background.
The American Lung Association suggests three actions that people can undertake during Lung Cancer Awareness Month to contribute towards making a difference.
