The Baylor Teen Health Clinic has inaugurated a new facility at the Bayland Community Center in Southwest Houston. The grand opening, held on October 16, was attended by representatives from Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner Lesley Briones’ office, which will support the clinic during its first year.
Dr. Peggy Smith, CEO of the Baylor Teen Health Clinic system, expressed enthusiasm about joining the Bayland community. "We at the Baylor College of Medicine Teen Health Clinics are honored to become part of the Bayland community and serve the young populations who call this area home," she said. She also acknowledged Commissioner Briones' leadership in supporting local healthcare initiatives.
Commissioner Briones highlighted the importance of accessible healthcare for community development. "Access to quality healthcare is critical for our community to thrive," she stated. She emphasized that opening this free clinic with Baylor College of Medicine is a significant step toward providing comprehensive healthcare services to youth.
The clinic offers free and confidential primary and reproductive preventative healthcare services for adolescents and young adults aged 13-24 in Harris County. Spanish-speaking providers and translation services are available to cater to diverse community needs.
Baylor Teen Health Clinics also run programs addressing educational and familial needs through initiatives like Ascend, the North East Adolescent Project, and the Texas Nurse-Family Partnership.
Dr. Paul Klotman, president, CEO, and executive dean at Baylor, praised Commissioner Briones' efforts since her election in 2022. "Since being elected in 2022, Commissioner Briones has championed many issues of importance to her community," he noted. He described the new clinic as evidence of her commitment to accessible youth healthcare.
Located at 6400 Bissonnet Street in Houston, TX 77074, the clinic operates Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. Appointments can be scheduled online or by calling 713-999-6980.
