Lung Association issues health guidance as Hurricane Milton approaches Florida

The American Lung Association has issued health guidance for Florida communities ahead of Hurricane Milton's expected landfall on Wednesday night. This guidance is particularly relevant for approximately 630,000 individuals in the Orlando area who suffer from chronic lung diseases such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and lung cancer.

As of Tuesday morning, hurricane warnings have been issued for all Central Florida counties. The forecast includes hurricane-force winds, heavy rainfall, and potential flooding. Coastal counties are also under storm surge advisories. Residents are advised to follow instructions from local authorities closely.

The Lung Association has provided several tips to help residents protect their lung health during the hurricane. More detailed information on self-protection during a hurricane and recovery afterwards can be found at Lung.org/Disaster.
