Lung association issues health guidance ahead of Hurricane Milton

The American Lung Association has released health guidance for Gulf Coast communities as Hurricane Milton approaches. The storm is expected to make landfall on Wednesday night, and its potential impact is significant for residents, especially those with chronic lung diseases such as asthma, COPD, and lung cancer.

Hurricane Milton is classified as a Category 5 hurricane, with forecasts predicting a storm surge of up to 12 feet. The region remains vulnerable following the damage from Hurricane Helene less than two weeks ago. Residents are advised to follow evacuation orders and local authorities' guidance.

To assist in protecting lung health during the hurricane, the Lung Association has provided several tips. Additional information on hurricane safety and recovery can be found at Lung.org/Disaster. Media inquiries regarding lung health and hurricane preparedness can be directed to the American Lung Association at [email protected] or 312-273-5890.
