Four new leaders join UTHealth Houston Development Board

On September 1, 2024, four community leaders joined the UTHealth Houston Development Board. Led by Maria Pappas, the board supports the university’s mission to educate health science professionals, conduct innovative research, and model best practices in clinical care and public health. With over 140 members, the board promotes awareness and philanthropic support for the university's initiatives to advance well-being in the region and beyond.

“We are excited that these outstanding individuals will share their time and talents to amplify the vital work being done across the university,” said Pappas. “Their voices and leadership will play a crucial role in promoting health and well-being for our communities.”

The new members include:

Michael Cox

Cox is a real estate development professional with 40 years of experience developing residential, commercial, and resort projects in the United States and the Caribbean. He leads Johnson Development Services, which provides equity placement, transaction management, and development services for large landowners, builders, investors, and lenders. Cox works with various community organizations and is committed to promoting health and wellness.

Albert J. Grobmyer IV

Grobmyer has been chair and CEO of Puffer-Sweiven LP since 2007. The company provides engineered automation solutions to industries such as oil and gas production. He also serves on boards including Aquinas Companies and Fannin Innovation Studio. Grobmyer holds a degree in chemical engineering from Rice University.

Helena P. Johnson

Johnson has served as principal and corporate counsel for Delta Troy Inc., since 1996. She is also involved with several community organizations including Annunciation Orthodox School where she is a trustee. Johnson graduated from The Kinkaid School in Houston, earned a bachelor’s degree from Rice University, and obtained a law degree from St. Mary’s University School of Law.

Barbara Riley

Riley is a retired certified public accountant who spent her career at Chevron Corporation in financial management roles across different regions including Asia. She volunteers mentoring students in Houston’s Fifth Ward and serves on various boards supporting UTHealth Houston's nursing school.
