American Lung Association honors oncologist Luis E. Raez with Distinguished Physician Award

The American Lung Association announced today that prominent South Florida oncologist, Luis E. Raez, MD, FASCO, will receive the Distinguished Physician Award at the LUNG FORCE Sunset Soiree. The event, scheduled for Friday, June 7 at the Addison of Boca Raton, aims to raise awareness and critical funding to combat lung cancer—the leading cause of cancer deaths in the U.S.

“We are pleased to recognize Dr. Luis E. Raez with the Distinguished Physician Award for his lifesaving contributions to our South Florida community,” said Lori Adelson, Esq., member of the LUNG FORCE Sunset Soiree Committee and founder of Approved Dispute Resolution. “Together with his dedicated team at Memorial Cancer Institute, Dr. Raez is pioneering lung cancer research, fostering the next generation of oncologists and providing outstanding patient care. His tireless efforts are helping us get closer to a world free of lung cancer.”

Dr. Raez has been treating patients with lung cancer for over 20 years and has served as Medical Director and Chief Scientific Officer at Memorial Cancer Institute since 2012. He has led the Thoracic Oncology Program since 2011 and holds academic positions as a clinical professor of medicine at Florida International University, research professor at Florida Atlantic University, and visiting professor of medicine at Cayetano Heredia University in Peru.

“Lung cancer is a lethal condition, and we must fight very hard for every patient to give them the best chance of cure or the best quality of life during this journey,” said Dr. Raez. “Lung cancer screening, biomarker testing and targeted therapy are key areas to advance in our fight against lung cancer.”

Each year during the LUNG FORCE Sunset Soiree, a local medical professional is honored with the Distinguished Physician Award for their contributions to fighting lung cancer and other life-threatening lung diseases in South Florida. Honorees exemplify compassion, innovation, and dedication to improving diagnostic methods as well as clinical treatments.

The LUNG FORCE Sunset Soiree: The Gilded Age is sponsored by Memorial Cancer Institute and presented by the Erwin and Barbara Mautner Charitable Foundation. The event promises an evening inspired by the glamour of the Gilded Age featuring elegance, entertainment, and inspiration while raising funds for vital lung cancer research initiatives.
