Mayo Clinic and Nemours Children’s Health Extend Collaboration in Jacksonville

Mayo Clinic in Florida and Nemours Children's Health, Jacksonville have announced a 10-year extension of their collaboration to enhance healthcare in the region and train future generations of medical professionals. The partnership, which began in 1993, focuses on medical training, research, and clinical care, particularly in pediatrics.

"We are committed to creating the healthiest generations of children and our partnership with Mayo helps to achieve that goal," stated Michael Erhard, M.D., North Florida region president, Nemours Children’s Health, Jacksonville. "Mayo Clinic has been a fantastic partner to Nemours and we look forward to continuing to work together."

Kent Thielen, M.D., CEO of Mayo Clinic in Florida, expressed his enthusiasm about the extended collaboration, emphasizing the commitment to improving patient care, conducting groundbreaking research, and fostering education. He mentioned, "Our unwavering commitment to improving patient care, conducting groundbreaking research and fostering education will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the future of healthcare."

The collaboration allows Mayo Clinic residents, fellows, and staff to receive specialty training at Nemours, including valuable hands-on experience in various subspecialties of pediatrics. Gerardo Colon-Otero, M.D., vice dean of Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine, highlighted the significance of the collaboration in the development and expansion of education programs at Mayo Clinic. He also mentioned the strengthening of programs such as stem cell transplant and CAR-T cell therapy through the joint efforts of Mayo Clinic and Nemours.

Raj Sheth, M.D., designated institutional official at Nemours Children’s Health, Jacksonville, emphasized the importance of partnerships between academic institutions to further the health of future generations. He stated, "This announcement underscores the value and importance of partnerships between two academic institutions, aligned by a common mission to further the health of future generations of children through medical education partnership."
