MyFitnessPal: 'Our community will now have the critical capability to understand and visualize how the foods they eat affect their blood glucose levels'

MyFitnessPal, which says it's the world's top nutrition and fitness tracking app and since 2005 has seen 200 million users in 120 countries, has partnered with Google Health Connect to integrate both apps, allowing those diagnosed with Type 1 and 2 diabetes to see glucose levels directly from MyFitnessPal.

The combination is for those who use the continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) tools in Google’s Health Connect, a MyFitnessPal news release said.

“Our community will now have the critical capability to understand and visualize how the foods they eat affect their blood glucose levels throughout the day. Prior to this, someone could see spikes in their glucose, but not make the connection to what caused them,” said Han. “Our collaboration with Google builds on our innovation and commitment to bringing the latest technologies to consumers as they navigate their health and wellness journeys, particularly those with diet-related diseases.”

Users can track correlations between food intake and glucose levels within the app by enabling glucose monitoring in Google Health Connect, helping users make better dietary choices for glucose control. Premium users with the timestamp feature enabled in their diary can visualize glucose levels plotted against time on food diary items, the news release said.

"After integrating with Health Connect last year, MyFitnessPal has allowed users to share nutrition information from their database of foods and track workout data from other apps," said Chris Wilk, senior product manager for Google's Health Connect by Android. "Today's announcement is a great way for MyFitnessPal to help users understand how the foods that they eat can impact their glucose levels."

The feature is currently available only to users of devices running on the Android operating system, but "MyFitnessPal is committed to enhancing collaborations to ensure members have the data they need to make decisions about their health," the news release said.

The app is free to download at App Store and Google Play. For more information, log onto myfitnesspal.com.
