Biden calls on Senate to pass Build Back Better legislation to reduce drug costs: 'We're close'

President Joe Biden is urging the Senate to pass his Build Back Better legislation, which has received some objection, particularly from U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV).

Biden, who recently visited the district of U.S. Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D-VA), said that the costs of medicines are “outrageously expensive.” He promised that the Build Back Better bill would help reduce the cost of prescription drugs.

“In my Build Back Better legislation, that with Abigail's leadership passed the House of Representatives, we can do that,” Biden said, according to The Hill. “Now we just have to get it through the United States Senate, and we're close.”

The Build Back Better bill passed the U.S. House in November 220-213 but has not moved out of the Senate yet.

According to The Hill, there have been some ideas floated about starting fresh with a revised proposal that could have a different name, but the president still refers to the measure as his "Build Back Better" package.

Manchin is concerned about inflation and increased debt, to which Biden argued that his package would “bring down the cost for average families,” and also noted that it “will not increase the debt,” The Hill reported.
