Biden warns governors: If you're not fighting COVID-19, 'get out of the way of everyone else'

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) face hurdles in their position to prohibit mask mandates.

President Joe Biden, on the other hand, continues the fight against COVID-19 by promoting mask-wearing and COVID-19 vaccines.

Both governors await final court rulings on the lawsuits filed against them because they have banned mask mandates in their respective states.

"As I've said before, if you aren't going to fight COVID-19, at least get out of the way of everyone else who's trying," Biden said, according to WhiteHouse.gov. "We're not going to sit by as governors try to block and intimidate educators protecting our children."

The Texas Supreme Court, on Aug. 19, ruled against Abbott's request to block a temporary restraining order that allowed mask mandates, U.S. News & World Report said.

On the same day, the Texas Education Agency stated that it would stop enforcing bans on mask mandates in schools until a final court decision has been made.

The lawsuit filed by parents against DeSantis on mask bans for schools can move forward, according to a judge. “The state sought to have the case thrown out,”said U.S. News & World Report. Opposite of the Texas Education Agency, the Florida Department of Education is actively enforcing DeSantis’ order, despite ongoing court battles.
