U.S. Medical Glove Company (USMGC) will increase domestic production of nitrile gloves after the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD), on behalf of Health and Human Services (HHS), engaged them with a $63.6 million contract.
The partnership will allow the Kentucky-based company to craft sophisticated industrial manufacturing equipment that would guarantee high-quality and safe production of medical-grade nitrile gloves.
"We are honored to be called upon by our government to lead the solution to this problem," USMGC Managing Partner Dylan Ratigan told Cision PR Newswire. "Industry and government leaders across the country have unified with us to ensure we exceed expectations on behalf of DOD and HHS for our country."
The contract brings back the country’s capacity to produce its own medical devices. USMGC is expected to acquire a number of American-made materials, including 1 billion pounds of steel, 535 miles of copper wire and 3 million cotter pins.
Subsequently, this effort is projected to provide 3,000 direct jobs and 10,000 indirect jobs, as the company anticipates expansion to as many as six regional hubs.
Jobs and other opportunities will be offered through the Veterans First program “to offer not just jobs -- but livelihoods to our nation's transitioning military personnel,” according to Cision PR Newswire.
