Medtronic joins the American Spine Registry, enhancing the 'relevance of national spine data collection'

Medical technology company Medtronic recently became the latest sponsor for the American Spine Registry (ASR).

The announcement was made by the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), according to Cision PR Newswire.

"The American Spine Registry (ASR) is building momentum," Dr. Steven Glassman, medical director at the Norton Leatherman Spine Centers and ASR Executive Committee cochair, told Cision PR Newswire. "By engaging the expertise and leadership of industry sponsors like Medtronic, we can enhance the scalability, sustainability, ease-of-use and relevance of national spine data collection."

Degenerative spine disease is currently one of the most common yet costly health conditions worldwide, with over 1.2 million spinal surgeries performed nationally each year, according to data from the National Center for Health Statistics.

Support from industry partners like Medtronic enables ASR to boost investments necessary to advance the technology and science and better meet the needs of physicians, patients, insurance companies, regulatory groups and industry partners.

Joining in collaboration with the AANS and AAOS significantly expands the ASR's access to relevant data and help surgeons to better make critical medical decisions. The program encourages all U.S. spine surgeons to contribute to a shared data collection platform to improve spine care outcomes.
