CMS initiates new clinician data system

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently said that practitioners partaking in the Quality Payment Program can record and input performance data from 2017 using CMS’s new website section.

Previously, doctors and medical technicians were required to enter information through numerous websites, so the new portal streamlines the procedure, according to a CMS release. The time period for entering 2017 performance data runs through March 31, except for web-based users who have between Jan. 22 and March 16.

“The Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA) requires CMS to implement the Quality Payment Program, and we are committed to doing so in the least burdensome way possible,” Seema Verma, CMS administrator, said in the release. “The new data submission system makes it easier for clinicians to meet MACRA’s reporting requirements and spend more time treating patients instead of filing paperwork.”

Clinical professionals simply log in to access the respective taxpayer identification numbers (TINs) linked with their national provider identifier (NPI) numbers. Once logged in, users can choose among several options for recording data based on their needs and preferences, the release said.

Among the new CMS site system’s advantages is the ability to observe Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) performance category scoring in real time.

CMS encourages clinicians to become familiar with the new site feature, emphasizing that data can be revised anytime through the end of their submission periods. Additionally, practitioners should contact the Quality Payment Program for help or questions by emailing qpp@cms.hhs.gov or calling 866-288-8292.
