Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center helps new father lose over 100 pounds

Over the past year, Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center helped a new father overcome a lifelong struggle and lose more than 100 pounds, according to a press release.

According to Wake Forest, Ronnie Bevins weighed 367 pounds when his wife gave birth to their first child last November. Bevins realized he needed to make positive changes in his life so that he could be a positive role model for his daughter.

“I vowed then to be a role model for my daughter,” Bevins said in the press release. “I want to make sure I can see her grow up and not be hindered by my obesity.”

In searching for ways to lose weight, Bevins came across the Weight Management Center at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, the release said. Dr. Jamy Ard, medical director of the center, developed a comprehensive program for Bevins that would allow him to lose weight over the long term by developing a healthier diet, exercising right and modifying his lifestyle and behavioral choices. The program, called By Design OPTIFAST, helped Bevins lose more than 100 pounds.

“Ronnie has made such a remarkable transformation in just one year,” Ard said in the press release. “Our entire team looks forward to continuing to support Ronnie as he participates in activities with his family that he never thought would be possible.”
