Drug Take Back Day targets disposal of unwanted, unused prescriptions

Ever wonder how to safely dispose of unwanted or expired prescription pills? As part of National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, Oct. 28, numerous locations around the country will be accepting unwanted prescription pills.

Since 2010, the Drug Enforcement Administration's (DEA) take-back event has collected more than 8.1 million pounds of pills, including many types that are susceptible to misuse or given to other people, the posting said. The DEA also offers posters and instructional materials to help hospitals and other take-back locations promote the event locally.

Drug take-back sites will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 28, a posting on the American Hospital Association website said. To find a location near you, visit the searchable page at https://apps.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/NTBI/ntbi-pub.pub?_flow.
